Engaging Environmental Experiences Internship
The Engaging Environmental Experiences (E3) Internship program at Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton provides CSUF students a pathway for developing leadership and cross disciplinary skills, team building and team management skills while learning horticultural practices, general ecological principles, and earning academic credit. Working on a team of up to 6 students in various majors, students gain a diverse experience in the E3 program.
A learn-by-doing focus is paramount to ensuring a robust academic experience, completing service-learning projects, building relationships with campus and community members and working together to solve pressing environmental issues in the Arboretum, CSUF campus, and beyond.
The E3 program is open to CSUF students in any major - from undergraduate to graduate level - and internships are available Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. Interns should plan to spend at least 8-10 hours per week in Fall or Spring (16 week semester), or 12 hours per week in Summer (10 week summer session), for a total of 120 hours per semester consisting of activity days, independent research and team meetings.

How to Apply for Academic Credit
Step 1: Review the Academic Internships Instruction Cards via the Center for Internships & Community Engagement (CICE) website.
- These instruction cards provide a breakdown of the step-by-step procedures for enrolling in your major’s specific internship course. (i.e., ART 495, BIOL 495, PUBH 495, etc.)
- Students who are not yet eligible to enroll in their major's specific internship course may instead enroll in AMST 495 for academic credit. Students seeking this option should follow the instructions in the Academic Internships Instruction cards for the AMST 495 course.
- Each academic department may have different procedures for enrollment in the internship course and/or internship placement.
Step 2: Follow the directions listed on the instruction cards thoroughly.
